My grandson replies w.r.t. Lijphart:    (02)

HI Opa,    (03)

I can tell you Lijphart is one of, if not the, most prominent scholars
in comparative electoral systems and broad based (ground up as opposed
to top down) democracy movements. I'm off to school now, but will write
more about this soon. He's been publishing since the mid sixties. This
said, comparative democracy, especially of developed democracies, is not
my area of expertise.    (04)

Lijphart has come under some criticism in the last few years (by
scholars such as Robert Putnam) who research social networks and are
concluding that these networks are failing, broadly put, when Alexis de
Tocqueville came to America in the 18th century, he wrote about the
remarkable social community with quasi political interests in America,
but today these communities are not as present.    (05)

I'm off to the train now, but will get back to you soon, possibly
Thursday after my two exams are done.    (06)
