Ack, I goofed in the maths! Trying again...    (01)

Take a BP4170 panel (and the data BP Solar give in the spec) - 170W,
34 V, 5 A. The panel has 72 cells.
Some laser diodes take a 1W in and pump out 0.8W.
170 - 72 = 98W.
98 - 72 = 26W.
The incident laser light on each secondary panel would be 72 * 0.8 =
57.6 W. (Plus 26W left over.)
But what does 57.6W incident on a photovoltaic panel produce?
Average sunlight might be 0.8kW/m^^2 = 800W/m^^2.
The BP4170 is approx 1.5m * 0.8m = 1.2m^^2.
Efficiency of panel = (170/(800 * 1.2)) *100 = 18% approx.
Area of single photovoltaic cell: 1.2m^^2 / 72 = 0.017m^^2 per cell.
So the incident power from the laser diode would be
0.8W/0.017m^^2.
Multiplying up by 58.8 (that's 1/0.017) to get the m^^2 range gives:
47W/m^^2 incident power.
47 * 1.2 = 56.4W per panel.    (02)

Aw cr*p. Thought it sounded too good to be true.    (03)
