It's been over a month ago that Eugene encouraged me to give everyone
on the collab list a formal introduction to my Social Wave Communities
project that I've been developing as a way of applying online
communities to towns and neighborhoods. After many delays (damn flu
and weird bugs going around last month), I've finally started a blog to
publish my thoughts on how to create better online communities and my
first set of articles will be dedicated to introducing my Social Wave
project and concepts important to its philosophy. (01)
I'll be doing this in stages. In my first article that I've put out
today, I give an introduction to something I call the "community
effect" which is derived from the "network effect." Whereas the
network effect has to do with utility vs. user adoption rates, the
community effect also considers the quality of a user's identity vs.
the number of users. Utility is highly important to an online
community's success, but identity can be just as important of a factor
if not more. (02)
Here's the link to the first article in my blog on building communities
with social software. My Social Wave Communities project is not
mentioned in it, but this article introduces the key concepts behind my
approach. (03)

tools and social applications toward improving residential life,
stimulating local commerce, and supporting community-facing
organizations. (05)
Thanks all, (06)

P.S. My blog site is still a work in progress. I just installed
Movable Type and won't have a chance to make some desired
customizations for a while. (08)
