I've seen some other threads elsewhere on this topic, and this may be
academic, but wouldn't some unknown scribe of an old religious text
(Bible?) get the nod here? Or maybe Gutenburg? Don't know how long
structural addressing has been around, but a bit longer than 40 years.    (02)

FWIW Chris Dent made this connection for me some time back. I think the
analogy between Purple and Bible verse numbering is the best I've seen
and one which anyone can immediately grasp. I had made several attempts
to explain PurpleSlurple to my 82 (now 83) year old father, to no avail.
When I presented the Bible analogy he instantly got it.    (03)

[Belaboring the point (this may be a repost): I handed him a Bible and
Hawaii (he's a big Michenor fan). I asked him to quickly turn to
paragraph 536 of Hawaii. He looked over the top of his glasses at me. I
smiled and then asked him to turn to Psalm 23:4. Light went on.    (04)
