I don't do it as a social activity; I do it as a work activity. It's
been fantastic for that. First, it's given me a better outlet to
ThinkOutLoud. Before I blogged, I had a pile of half-baked ideas and
half-written essays, and the only people who knew about them were
people with whom I interacted with face-to-face.    (03)

My blog is a great outlet for half-baked ideas and half-written
essays. I feel less self-conscious about what I write there, and the
ideas are recorded. There are two effects. First, the synthesis
process helps me clarify and refine my thinking. Second, I get great
feedback and broader exposure for Blue Oxen ideas. People have a
better sense of what we do and how I think. Third, there is a social
network effect. I have definitely built stronger relationships with
people I respect in the blogging world, people whom I'd like to suck
into this community eventually.    (04)

It's one of the reasons I'd encourage others here to blog. Glad to
see Peter jumping into that world, for example, because he's loaded
with good ideas, and a blog would be an excellent outlet for that. I
think it would be great for you as well, John.    (05)

We can further encourage this phenomenon by syndicating all of our
members' blogs on the collaboratory site, something I plan on doing.    (06)

I host on a remote server, which I share with some friends. For
people who are interested in a blogging service, I would first
recommend Bill's wikilogs.com:    (08)

Of course, Bill is one of our own, so I'm extremely biased. But he's
also actively exploring and implementing a lot of the important ideas
that we talk about a lot in this forum. I'd also recommend looking at
TypePad:    (010)

Ben and Mena Trott are excellent practitioners of coevolution; they
just don't realize that yet. :-) Eventually, Chris will get Ben to
understand why the Church of Purple is the place to be, and we'll suck
the Trotts in as well.    (012)

Finally, those of you who are already running or planning to run
MovableType or blosxom on your own, I would highly encourage you to
install our purple number plugins. E-mail Chris for help with
MovableType, me for blosxom.    (013)
