Hi,    (01)

For the Language/Action Perspective (LAP) research community (see
http://www.uvt.nl/lap2003 for some links), we are thinking about setting
up a simple portal. Ultimately, it might grow into a real collaboratory
(good test case?), but we want to start with a simple space including:    (02)

- a list of pointers all previous workshops and conferences
- member directory
- document-space
- discussion fora
- ...    (03)

Does anybody know of good, robust, and user-friendly portal software? A
simple wiki won't do, as anybody can delete anything there and much
functionality is lacking.    (04)

Would Blue Oxen or somebody else be willing to host the portal? It could
be used as a test case for ideas launched in these fora. Some LAP members
are also on the yak and tools-yak lists and could be linking pins.
Having a real community with an incentive to actually use some of the
technologies proposed here, might provide a more realistic testbed
environment for the collaboratory experiments proposed.    (05)

Another community that could benefit from a hosted portal is the
conceptual graphs community (http://www.cs.uah.edu/~delugach/CG). For
years, at the ICCS conferences people have been talking about the need for
a portal, but there is no real knowledge on how to set it up.    (06)

Essential in both portals, maybe not initially, but as soon as possible,
is the possibility of distributed authoring of portal pages: one person
could be responsible for the conference list page, another for the member
directory, etc.    (07)

Any suggestions?    (08)

Aldo    (09)
