Blue Oxen Collab Collaboratory Summary -- 2002-02-02    (01)

In which a summary of recent activity on the yak@collab,
tools-yak@collab and CollabWiki is provided.    (02)

Please respond with corrections, comments, questions and
suggestions.    (03)

Yak:    (04)

  Nothing to report from the yak list. If you've not already done
  so you may wish to introduce yourself and explain the roots of
  your interest in collaboration. I have, for example, heard some
  of Eric Armstrong's health-related reasons but there are a lot of
  other people in the group.    (05)

Tools-Yak:    (06)

  The tools-yak list was occupied with discussing blogs and
  PurpleNumbers.    (07)

====
  Danny Ayers introduced his idea of using a Blog (in this case
  Movable Type) to manage the "the dynamic side of documentation
  for the Ideagraph project":    (08)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/cgi-bin/mesg.cgi?a=tools-yak&i=EBEPLGMHCDOJJJPCFHEFMEJJJEAA.danny666@virgilio.it    (09)

  He included a long and valuable list of the reasons.    (010)

  This led to some discussion of using PurpleNumbers and other
  methods of granular addressibility in blogs.    (011)

  Eugene pointed out discussion on the PurpleWiki development
  list related to integrating PurpleWiki and Movable Type:    (012)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/tools-yak/2003-02/msg00007.html#nid03    (013)

  I've since made this work in a basic form:    (014)

http://purplewiki.blueoxen.net/forums/devel/2003-02/msg00012.html#nid05    (015)

  Danny wondered about the relationship between PurpleNumbers and
  XLink/Xpointer:    (016)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/tools-yak/2003-02/msg00009.html#nid06    (017)

  Jack Park pointed out how he deals with individual information
  resources (the things that are pointed to by PurpleNumbers or
  other identifiers) in NexistWiki:    (018)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/cgi-bin/mesg.cgi?a=tools-yak&i=5.1.1.6.0.20030208095953.03a044e0@thinkalong.com    (019)

====
  In a separate, but related, thread Peter Jones provided some
  comments on the "look and feel" of Purple Numbers stating, "[t]he
  numbers don't actually need to appear for the user to see."    (020)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/tools-yak/2003-02/msg00010.html#nid02    (021)

  Of special interest is his solution for marking paragraphs or
  lines that have been transcluded:    (022)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/tools-yak/2003-02/msg00010.html#nid03    (023)

  I responded with some confusion over the use of the terms Line
  and Paragraph that Peter promptly cleared up:    (024)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/tools-yak/2003-02/msg00014.html#nid05    (025)

====
  Peter also announced the latest revision of GSIX: Graph
  Structures in XML:    (026)

http://collab.blueoxen.net/forums/cgi-bin/mesg.cgi?a=tools-yak&i=001e01c2cc7d%24fac22140%24de6a87d9@vaio    (027)

-=-=-
CollabWiki    (028)

Nothing new (yet) on the wiki.    (029)

-=-=-
Dangling Threads    (030)

(A subjective interpretation of what was left hanging.)    (031)

====
Some work is perhaps necessary to explain the reasons for the
differences between PurpleNumbers and XPointer. Pros, cons, etc.
The PurpleNumbers in PurpleWiki are being used because they are
usable _now_. What problems will this cause down the road?    (032)
