While I wouldn't doubt that many people in fact only pay
heed to other people for selfish reasons, such as pandering
to some audience    (05)

I would have to disagree that being people-centred is the
same as pandering. Meatball is people-centred because we
like people.     (07)

We do not crave an audience, nor do we want to become popular.     (09)

We definitely don't want to be paid.     (011)

I totally agree.    (013)

I normally state this as enable&empower rather than direct&control.
Most code actually limits choices of the user, even if developers
think they are providing more features for the user to use. This
is because the software begins by offering nothing and then works
to regress to the mean by providing features. Conversely, if you
build software that provides everything, you can only regress to
the mean by adding restrictions, something that not many users are
willing to press for. This is why a wiki is better than a discussion
forum.     (014)

Depends what culture you're from... Be careful! ;)    (016)
