John asks a perfectly legitimate question, but I don't have a succinct, or
general, answer. Others (e.g. Simon, Jeff, Eugene) might have a better

For me personally, asking what Compendium is for is like asking what a
guitar or movie camera is for. It's an expressive medium that can be used
for many kinds of representations, especially (to me) ones that involve
showing multiple perspectives on a situation, and ones that involve pulling
information in from other tools, working with it, talking about it, and then
sending it on/back to other tools, combining as much both formal and
informal representation as necessary. (02)
