Sheldon Chang, who's on this list, runs an online community called
Events at 1083:    (01)

  http://smirking.com/1083/    (02)

He has personal profile pages, threaded forums, polls, etc. It's a
real, online community that brings values to its members, and yet,
there's not a purple number in sight. :-)    (03)

There is a shared (or at least, somewhat shared) philosophy in this
group about collaborative tools, things like granular addressability
being important. My question for you all is, what is the relevance of
the tool philosophy we espouse to a community like Sheldon's? In
other words, what value would some of the ideas we discuss here on
this list bring to such a community?    (04)

Feel free to plug in your own examples of real online communities to
answer this question.    (05)
