Crit addresses the same issue that purple numbers do -- content
addressability -- but does so in a fashion which makes a different set
of compromises. It achieves the addressing of arbitrary, fine-grained,
unwritable content, with the compromise that one must use the crit
software to be able to see the new links.    (02)

See how it works?

It appears that CritLink Mediator, though offering a powerful capability
has been rather underappreciated. Part of the problem is critical
mass. There are very few pages on the net which have any crit links
into them. Hence the payoff associated with surfing using crit is
limited. This problem is addressed to a degree by having a whole group
motivated to use the Crit technology when dealing with their area of
shared interest. Hence if "critical mass" is unavailable then at least
"critical density" might be achieved for those users in that domain.    (04)

>From my perspective, CritLink's larger problem is the very limited
nature of what it *does* with its powerful foreign content addressing
ability. I think that a service of this nature would be much handier if
one could:
  1) classify the content linked to (using an user-extensible ontology)
  2) evaluate (rate) content according to user-contributable criteria
  3) filter the database of links according to the evaluations
  4) fold into the whole Nooron way of leveraging such evaluations:
     a) choosing whose evaluations to heed
     b) performing queries involving multiple criteria, with heeding
     c) present rich, graphical depictions of domains, driven by
        evaluations
     d) worldviews, blah blah blah
  5) use it cope with legacy web content, while segueing into the use
     of more flexible, knowledge-representation-based content
*evolution* (not just management) facilities.    (05)

Proposal: That the collaboratory members evaluate http://crit.org by
using it in these discussions. Either the main crit site could be used
directly or the crit software could be installed on a blueoxen box for
the purpose. The license is very open.    (06)

Prediction: The collaboratory members will end up of the opinion that
Crit is impressive but too inflexible to merit other than moderate use.     (07)

Improving content addressability is just a small part of the equation.    (08)
