There's a new article on XFML (eXchangeable Faceted Metadata
Language): (01)
http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2003/01/22/xfml.html (02)
Doing a cursory read of the article, XFML's syntax is substantially
different from XTM, although they've retained some of the names and
concepts. It doesn't need to be from a technical standpoint, which
leads me to believe that they did it because they thought it would
make it easier for beginners to understand. I don't know if that's
true, but XFML seems to have much more momentum than Topic Maps from
the information architecture community. The community seems larger
and more active, and it seems to be reaching a broader audience. It
could just be that Topic Maps are already mature, and maybe a little
ahead of its time. Should be interesting to see what happens. (03)
