I wanted to give you folks a sense of how Blue Oxen plans on evolving
its current toolset and to solicit feedback. Our immediate emphasis
is on building a member registration system, some Web-based mailing
list management tools, and better integrating our current tools --
PurpleWiki and the archived mailing lists. This should be complete by
the end of January. After that, here's what we want to do:    (01)

* PurpleWiki. We have three parallel paths, here. The first is to
refactor the code and make it enterprise-ready. The second is to
improve the usability of the Wiki. The third is to replace the
backend with a Nodal-like system that will enable us to do
transclusions and other cool things.    (02)

* Archived Mailing Lists. I want to replace MHonArc with a
database-driven system that uses message IDs as the IDs. We may
take eyebrowse and hack it to use message IDs instead of its own
numbering system. I also want to be able to have an integrated
mailing list/web-based forum. Right now, gmane is probably the best
  candidate for this (http://www.gmane.org/).    (03)

* Category Engine. We badly need this capability, and I don't believe
that anyone has done this well, at least not as open source. (I
know that Eric is a big fan of Twisted Systems.) We've been
discussing this a bit internally, but now that this list is up, I'd
like to have this conversation here. Specifically, I'm trying to
understand whether and how faceted classification plays into this.
I know that Michael Crusoe has some ideas about a topic map-based
system, and expect that he'll bring them up on this list sometime
  soon.    (04)

Finally, there's been a lot of discussion about things that we can
hack for our own use. I want to encourage this -- experimentation and
bootstrapping is the main purpose of these collaboratories -- and
remind you all of certain privileges that you have as Blue Oxen
members:    (05)
